Availability List - Fall 2009
  Return to Home Page

Dear friends and valued customers. Just wanted to let you know that this will be our last retail update. The economy has forced us to close the retail nursery and when we stop shipping this fall, we will not be shipping again. As you will see, we have a fairly wide range of plants available (all in very small numbers). All plants are in 1 gallon nursery containers. We are listing alot of Japanese maples this year and hope you will find the list exciting (and buy lots of plants!). We are very excited to be offering a large number of unnamed magnolias from Bill Smith's breeding project for the first time ever. These are either selections that Bill has already flowered and is considering naming in the future, or in some cases are extremely rare crosses never before done! It is unlikely that you will ever find these plants available again and you will certainly be the first to have them in your gardens! As you go through the list, you will see a few plants with very high prices - these are EXTREMELY RARE and difficult to propagate and rarely ever available in the USA. There is only one or two of each and they will sell out quickly! Due to government restrictions, we can no longer ship outside of the USA (Canada may still be possible, but would have to confirm with inspectors before attempting to ship). Shipping is still at cost and will only be done using priority mail. Boxing is $10 a box with 2 or 4 plants per box, $15 for 1 or 3 plants per box, $20 for 6 or 8 plants per box and $25 for 5 or 7 plants per box (I know this is confusing, but it is difficult to pack odd numbers of plants in a box). We have a minimum order of $100 for shipping. If you want to pick plants up here at the nursery, there is no minumum required (please make arrangements to visit). If you are interested in large numbers of plants, please contact me for reduced prices (large numbers = at least 25 plants or more). Thank you all for your continued support over the years and it is sad to say good bye.

Callicarpa dichotoma 'Duet" 12-15" A beautiful, white variegated, white fruited selection of beautyberry that is perfect in the shade garden. $20.00
Camellia transnokoensis 10-15" A truly delightful species with tiny leaves and flowers. Slow growing, small shrub COVERED with tiny white flowers in the spring. One of my favorites! $25.00
Cyrilla arida 2-3' Rare species from South Carolina and Georgia with tiny leaves and typical Cyrilla flowers in the summer. Bees go crazy for the flowers. Blooms when very little is blooming in the garden. Needs good drainage. $20.00
Elaecarpus decipiens 6-12" One of my favorite evergreen trees (hardy to zero degrees F) - related to bay tree - it has bright greenleaves, and in early spring and again in mid summer all the old leaves turn brilliant red (and then fall off). The two-tones green/red effect is STUNNING! $30.00
Euonymus americana (Evergreen form) 18-24" I received this selection from Tony Avent (Plant Delights Nursery) and have been amazed to see it staying evergreen most winters! (Mine dropped their leaves this fall due to a very quick cold spell before leaves had time to harden off). Heavy fruiting on an very heavily branching plant. Great for a slightly shady spot. $25.00
Jasminum Fiona Sunrise 18" Bright golden foliage and a semi-climbing shrub. Much more cold hardy that I expected - OK to near zero F. Brightens up a shady area or makes a brilliant show in the sun. $20.00
Juniperus rigida (wild collected) 8-10" Very upright growing form with spiny leaves. Great for a dry, sunny spot. $20.00
Laurus x Umbellularia 10" A fast growing hyrid between bay laural and California bay. Excellent leaves for cooking (much stronger flavored than bay laural). Hardy to about zero F. $20.00

Quercus (Oak) This group of plants is quickly becoming one of my favorites (I think I have too many favorites!) The huge range of growth habits, leaf color and shape are truly amazing. Oaks are typically very long lived trees and just get better with age!

Argenteo Variegata 18-24" fast growing English oak with white margined leaves. $30.00
Concordia 4' + extremely fast growing English oak with yellow leaves. Makes a nice shade tree very quickly. Must be grown in full sun for good yellow color. $30.00

EXTREMELY difficult to propagate and will always be rare! ONLY TWO PLANTS AVAILABLE! Demand always much greater than supply! Order quickly. $350.00
Taxodium (bald cypress) This group of plants has quickly become another of my top favorites! We aren't propagating all of the cultivars that we have (~24 now), but we are propagating a wide range of growth habits that will fit just about any landscape need. Taxodium can tolerate a very wide range of soil conditions - from fairly poor, dry soil (they grow much better in moist, good soil), compacted soils are not an issue, and into standing water! There are forms that make huge trees, weeping specimens, tiny dwarfs - truly a tree for all gardens!
